Laser Hair Removal Treatment

LASER is an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation.

This is the process whereby hair follicles are permanently destroyed by using LASER light. This technique was first approved for hair removal by USFDA [United States Food and Drug Administration] in 1997 and since then, the technology has evolved by leaps and bounds through the years. Now, this is a SAFE, PAINLESS and EFFICIENT way to get rid of unwanted hair from any part of the body.

Technology We Use

Several LASER technologies are now available for hair removal, like Diode laser, Long Pulsed Nd YAG laser, Alexandrite laser, etc. In our clinic, we use IPL [Intense Pulsed Light] for hair removal. Technically speaking, IPL is not a laser, but it is best suited for hair removal on South Indian skin and is better than many lasers for the purpose. Hair removal by IPL is better termed as photoepilation or phototricholysis.

IPL uses a Xenon Flash Lamp, which unlike lasers, produces light of wavelengths ranging from 400 nm to 1200 nm. Filters are used to cut off shorter wavelengths. This option, not available with lasers, makes IPL very versatile. Thus, apart from hair removal, IPL can be used by just changing the filter, for the treatment of acne [pimples], dark spots on the face like freckles, rosacea and also for skin tightening and rejuvenation.

For hair removal, IPL targets the dark pigment melanin in the hair. The light, selectively absorbed by the pigment, is converted to heat, which damages the hair follicle and also the hair bulb. [The hair bulb is the region from which new hair regrows after the hair is plucked.] Once the hair bulb is destroyed no hair can regrow.

So, regardless of which area you are looking to get rid of the hair from, IPL does the job. In a matter of minutes, hair follicles are destroyed with minimal discomfort, giving you the results which you can see and feel.

Laser Hair Removal Treatment FAQs

HOW MANY SESSIONS ARE REQUIRED?

Generally speaking, 4 to 8, with each session spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. After each session, you will see fewer and finer hair regrowing.

CAN HAIR BE REMOVED FROM AREAS OTHER THAN FACE?

Hair can be removed from any area including arms, legs,  armpits, chest, back and bikini line apart from the face.

IS IT PAINFUL?

No, it is not. With IPL, the sensation is akin to a sharp burst of mild heat lasting for less than a second. Our machine has an inbuilt cooling mechanism which helps to cool the skin faster.

HOW MUCH IT COSTS?

Varies from INR. 1000 for just the upper lip to INR. 5000 for the whole face.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

Theoretically yes, but usually no, when done by trained Dermatologists. Hence, patients should get it done only by a dermatologist whom they trust.
