In recent years, the practice of tattooing has been increasing, especially among youngsters. With this, there has been a proportionate rise in the demand for tattoo removal as well. For recruitment, the Armed Forces in India, have stringent stipulations regarding body tattoo.
Different laser technologies are available, the best suited for the removal of the most commonly used dark pigment in a tattoo is Q Switched Nd: YAG laser.
The laser works by shattering the ink particles in the tattoo into tiny fragments. In the days and weeks following the treatment session, the body’s immune system removes the shattered ink particles. Thus, during the next several months the tattoo fades progressively after each laser treatment session.

IS TATTOO REMOVAL PAINFUL?
Well… it is NOT nearly as painful as doing the tattoo in the first place. Anyone who was bold enough gets the tattoo done, shouldn’t find the experience of tattoo removal painful.
HOW LONG IT TAKES TO REMOVE A TATTOO?
It depends on several factors like the amount of pigment in the tattoo, the depth at which the pigment is placed in the skin, age of the tattoo, whether done by professional tattoo artist or amateur as well as the immune status of the individual.
But, in general, it takes about 4 – 8 months with sessions spaced 4 – 6 weeks apart.
ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?
Mild swelling and redness are common, but these usually subside in a day. Though rare, more serious side effects like pigmentary changes, infection and scarring can occur. That is all the more the reason why Laser Tattoo removal should be done only by a qualified Dermatologist who can recognize and treat these side effects when they do occur.
Thus, though there can be side effects, Laser Tattoo removal is safe in the hands of a trained Dermatologist.

IS IT POSSIBLE TO REMOVE TATTOOS OF DIFFERENT COLOURS USING LASER?
Black tattoos are the easiest to remove. Brightly coloured ones are more challenging. Black tattoos are the most common ones. Please note that the black tattoo ink looks greenish on the Indian skin.
